Yin yoga focuses on poses that deeply stretch the connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, and fascia) in the body. Yin yoga poses are held for longer periods of time, usually three to five minutes. Physically, regular yin yoga practice increases the natural range of mobility in the joints and ultimately helps to develop greater flexibility in our body. Mentally, the yin approach cultivates inner stillness, calmness, and patience.
It is a great option for those who are: sporty and have tight muscles; tired and craving energy; stressed and have erratic energy levels; or over-stimulated and feel the need to slow down. Even if you prefer dynamic-style yoga, complementing your practice with yin yoga will create a more well-rounded practice. Practitioners usually feel lighter, relaxed and refreshed after a yin yoga class.
